Alafaya Woods Residents,
With the potential for a hurricane to impact central Florida in the next few days, please be sure to use the next couple of days to prepare for possible heavy winds, storms, and potential damage to property.
Along with stocking up on necessities, keep in mind the following:
Outdoor furniture, hanging plants, etc., can become projectiles in high winds and cause damage to windows, siding, screens, and other property. It’s best to bring these items inside if possible, or safeguard in a space out of the direct wind.
Pets- please make sure your pets are kept indoors the 24 hours preceding the storm’s arrival to ensure their safety.
Keep gutters and drains free from clogs to prevent potential backup of water on your roof and in the streets. Most street flooding is caused by yard debris (leaves, limbs, etc) clogging stormwater drains.
Check your flashlight batteries and make sure you have supplies in case the power goes out.
If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, this is a great opportunity to check in with them and make sure everyone in your community is prepared.
Emergency services will be patrolling during the storm to look for downed power lines and trees that block the roads. Be considerate of them and report any non-emergency issues to the Oviedo Police Department non-emergency number, 407-971-5700.
Most of all, be safe!
